What’s old and what’s the new – from lockdown to tier 2…

So, what have I been doing here at FabFoodForYou during lockdown 2?

With new restrictions fast becoming part of our daily and ongoing lives, we’ve all had to change and adapt. Fortunately adaptability is what I’m good at!

I’ve had to focus my work away from the larger scale event catering to something that’s always been close to my heart- the personal touch, on a personal scale.

My dinner parties, bespoke meals, platters and other small scale catering offerings remain popular. Please see my website and Facebook pages for more information, menus and ideas- though I’m always happy to cater for your wishes, whatever they may be.

My Sunday roasts have proved so popular that I have frequently sold out! With a weekly selection of different meats- succulent pork, chicken, beef and lamb, delicious roast potatoes and parsnips, rich cauliflower cheese and other fresh vegetables including carrots, cabbage, broccoli, green beans, leaks and even the odd sprout sneaked in, real homemade meat jus gravy and, of course the good old Yorkshire pudding! I’ve even started adding a selection of tempting deserts if you order them specially! A feast delivered to your door with a smile and a cheerful greeting, leaving your tastebuds working overtime at that unmistakable aroma of the best traditional home cooked Sunday lunch.

As I’ve been delivering to a growing number of people I’ve discovered a real demand for simple, traditional home cooked meals, especially amongst my more elderly, less active and possibly housebound clients. This is where the truly personal comes in as I have been able to really stop and get to know my lovely customers. Stopping for a chat with the delivery, heating up and serving the meal to people who live alone and often don’t see anyone else in a day is as important to wellbeing as a good nutritious meal is. I’ve developed a menu consisting of a variety of simple and popular British dishes that are delivered in foil dishes, making it easy to heat up in the oven or re-plated and heated in a microwave.

Examples of the typical fare include beef stew and dumplings, gammon with parsley sauce, chicken in a white sauce with rice, pork steaks with apple sauce, turkey steaks with sunrooms in a white sauce, chicken breast wrapped in bacon with a cheese sauce and a variety of homemade pies with enticing fillings such as chicken and bacon or beef with my own delicious gravy.

All of the above dishes are served with a selection of fresh, locally grown potatoes and vegetables. And don’t forget to add one of my homemade

deserts. Staying with the theme of traditional food my selection of deserts include cheesecakes, crumbles, jam roly-poly, spotted dick and sponges- treacle, chocolate, ginger and others. All of course served with my creamy custard.

I’ve been making and baking away too, so with the main orders I can provide a variety of other homemade ware. If you want to add delicious quiches, savoury tarts, scotch eggs, pork pies, individual meat pies, sausage rolls etc then I can supply these with the meals.

I am now able to provide fresh, tasty, delicious and nutritious meals five days a week to people that want it, with 2 extra meals delivered on a Sunday alongside the roast and a couple of dishes delivered on Wednesdays. All my meals are easy to store in a fridge and to re-heat as and when wanted. And with the extra little things I offer I feel I can deliver an almost complete service.

As always I use fresh, locally and sustainably sourced produce from trusted suppliers. This complements my love and belief in fresh, healthy, nutritionally balanced food, produced and made with love and care. I really like to think that delivering a regular supply of suitable, convenient, delicious, tempting, varied and affordable meals ready to heat and eat provides a necessary, important, individual and personal service that can be much needed in our present circumstances. That, as well as the regular contact with someone, a smile, a chat, a joke, someone to keep an eye out on things, sharing a worry or two provides the sort of more complete care that the price of a takeaway or food delivery service alone can’t buy. I would like to feel that I’m helping to feed the body, the mind, the heart and the soul. That personal touch on a personal level.

I’ve really enjoyed building my FabFoodForYou family and friends and look forward to continuing to do so.

Cheese & Wine Evenings

There is nothing I love more than getting together with friends for fun evenings, I’ve always hosted gatherings! However, whereas as when I was my younger self it was easy and affordable (I knew no different!) my friends and I now have more refined tastes… we can no longer always get by on cheap alcohol and celery!

These days, a good evening includes a cheese board along with some delicious wine pairings. Mostly, followed by Gin!  Good cheese and wine are thought of as expensive. One couldn’t put value cheese slices on a cheese board and pair it with an own brand box wine!

Nevertheless, that does not mean a cheese and wine evening needs to break the bank. Even in unprecedented times, like we are experiencing now, you can host an affordable cheese and wine evening that will impress. Your bubble at least!

While you can’t skimp on the cheese, if you look well enough, you can find cheaper wine tastes almost as good as the more expensive options. If you aren’t  friends with a gang of sommeliers, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Here are some tips on looking for good, cheap wine.

Familiarise Yourself With Grapes

Lots of  people name wines without really knowing what they’re talking about. It can seem daunting bur, don’t worry! People speak about a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon as if these are brands, but they are actually types of grapes, believe it or not!

But, this does not mean that all Merlots are the same. Definitely not. There are some wineries that really know how to ruin good grapes and make bad wine. However, if you know what type of grapes you and your friends’ favorite wine is made from, you can start looking for cheap options that are more than good enough.

Try out Local!

Some of the world’s best wine regions might be nowhere near where you live. You may be tempted to buy wines from Saint Emilion or Marlborough because you know that is where great wine is produced. However, you are going to be paying a premium not only for the quality, but for import costs and taxes as well. You can nearly always find local wineries you can support anywhere in the UK.

High End With Low Cost

A thing to remember, avoiding the big brands is a good start. You’ll be paying a premium for their renowned quality, in addition to what’s probably an expensive region. However, some of the most expensive wineries also have cheaper options that are just as good!

The price might imply low quality, but big names are not going to risk their reputations by selling bad wine. It won’t be as good as the premium options, but it will be more than sufficient for you and your friends evening in.

Mix it up!

If you really want some of the best wines to go with your cheese, you can choose to splash out on a couple of great bottles while having a couple of cheaper bottles for later on in the evening! You will pair the best wines with cheese, but use the cheap wines as top ups and for casual drinking… or at that point you know your friends won’t know the difference after a couple!

Finally remember, unless your friends are complete wine snobs and are highly educated in the world of wine, do not worry! Your friends will enjoy the wine you choose, i’m sure!

Most of all, Cheers!

2020 Christmas Party With a Difference

For most workplaces, December brings us together in a social way to celebrate successes, planning frantically for the rush to finish those jobs before Christmas, and of course, the staff christmas party. There’s nothing like relaxing with your workmates at the end of a year’s hard work.

Now, 2020 has turned out to be a year with a difference … with Christmas not so long away as some would hope, many companies are still working remotely or limiting travel, some businesses may be considering canceling their end of year work parties. Well…You mustn’t!

It seems unlikely you will be able to celebrate in usual style but, even if you can’t host a large gathering, you should still plan a celebration for your team – they deserve it! Christmas parties are great for strengthening relationships with your staff and customers alike. So, what can you do to bring together your team this festive season? Because let’s face it, your team won’t let you forget it if you don’t!

Christmas 2020 is no doubt going to feel quite different, maybe a little strange. But, do not fear, Fab Food For You has come up with a virtual treat for everyone!  A Virtual Christmas Party hosted online gives the opportunity for staff and those favorite clients to chat, and for everyone to catch up with colleagues they might not have seen in person for sometime, while enjoying great food and drink supplied by us at FFFY.

HOW TO ORGANISE FFFY VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY

Usually, your Christmas gift to your team is as simple as paying the bar tab at the end of the night or treating them to a meal out. You’re going to have to get a bit more creative this year. After all, amidst rapid change and uncertainty, it has never been more vital to show your employees how valued they are.

At FFFY, we have noticed many of our customers and friends have been remodeling their plans of a Christmas party into employee gift giving. You could be tempted to say ‘thank you’ by sending each staff member a gorgeous food hamper- which we can provide. There’s nothing quite like having a glorious hamper delivered to your doorstep, is there?

Nevertheless for a truly memorable end of 2020 staff party (let’s face it we will all remember 2020), we put forward, planning the ultimate virtual Christmas party. This year especially, it’s important to give all employees the chance to sit back, relax, share a drink or two, and reconnect with your team!

How to plan a virtual Christmas party online

Firstly, select a date! If it’s a weekend let everyone know well in advance or let everyone finish work early on a friday and organise a Zoom call. Why not send out vibrant virtual Christmas party invitations in advance so everyone can plan ahead, like you would usually!  Get everyone to RSVP with their choice of drink and dietary requirements. We love to support other small local businesses so we can provide local beverages too, we’ve selected Hollow Lane VineYard Bubbles or Furnace Brook Ales, your choice! You don’t have to tell the team why you ask either, surprise them with our hamper!  It will give them a surprise to look forward to!

Dress to the nines… why not!

For most, working from home has meant a slippery slope into lounge wear and fluffy socks, so give them a chance to dust off their high heels and polish their cufflinks to get ready for the liveliest night in a while!

You could even organise a theme or just leave it up to each individual to wear whatever makes them happy. You want your virtual Christmas party to be memorable for years to come. Be sure you screenshot this event, let’s hope it’s the first and last!

A virtual work party to remember

Let’s be optimistic, this could be the one and only time you have the chance to organise such an event. Your team could remember the Christmas Party 2020 forever. Make it special for them and get involved!

We hope to be working with you soon to bring some joy to the festive season for you and your team. We can work with you to create our hampers as bespoke as you’d like. Having great connections with local crafties who can even personalise items for your team could add an even more special touch for a keepsake to look back at – The Virtual Christmas Party.

You can order a Christmas Day Hamper anytime on our website full of everything you need for the perfect Christmas Dinner!
