Fabfoodforyou Festive Favourite

Here at Fab Food For You with Christmas just around the corner we have been busy catering for dinner parties and festive gatherings. Although the weather hasn’t been the best, in case of a sudden temperature plummet there is one thing we are always stocked up on here at HQ… Wine! We think there is nothing better than a cup of warm Mulled Wine in front of the fire on a chilly evening.

At Fab Food For You we love nothing more than a good ol’ party! I’m sure some of you are aware… we adore having friends round to our cottage in our spare time. Mulled Wine is one of those drinks that brings everybody together during one of our summer house soirées! It’s perfect, warms us to the core and is simply delicious!

Most of you will know what mulled wine is but for those of you that don’t, essentially it is an amalgamation of Red Wine, Spices and dried Fruits. The Spices usually consist of: Star Anise, Cloves, Nutmeg and Cinnamon. Dried fruits usually being Orange Peel and Raisins. The wine is gently heated in a pan to absorb the flavours.

Over the years we have formulated (roughly) our ‘Festive Favourite’ which is as follows:

1 bottle of Red Wine

1/4 cup Sugar

1 Star Anise

2 Cardamom pods

3 Cloves

1/2 sliced Lemon

1 dash of Sweet Chilli sauce

drizzle of Cherry Brandy to finish each serving

Simply add the Red Wine to the pan and add the spices and Sugar. Once bought to the boil leave to simmer for 40 minutes. In the last moments of simmering add the slices of lemon and Chilli sauce. When serving ladle into mugs or glasses, whichever you prefer! Finally add a dash of Cherry Brandy and a garnish of Orange!

When you’re organising a dinner party, a lunch event or even trying to sort out your wedding catering, offering something different and engaging to your guests can be tricky. A lot of dinner party catering firms provide pretty standard fare and whilst there might be some nice food on offer and the service might be more than adequate for your requirements, those attending your function aren’t going to remember much about it in the weeks and months after the event.

  • High Quality Fresh Local Produce – When you book us for your catering, you’re not going to get warmed up, pre-prepared, prepackaged food. We only use fresh, high quality local produce in the food we provide, something we know you’ll be able to taste in every mouthful.
  • Sophisticated Vintage Dining – We know that the devil is in the detail an along with offering vintage crockery hire, our chef and all of our waiting staff will be dressed up to the nines in smart attire, adding gravitas to the occasion. You can even opt for flowers, ornate glassware, candles and linen tablecloths and napkins for that extra touch of class if desired.
  • A Comprehensive Service – We look after you and your guests from minute one, as we will lay the table and serve pre dinner drinks, so that your guests are nice and relaxed and even clear up the kitchen and tidy everything away after we’ve finished. The last thing you want to have to do at the end an enjoyable party is to be bothering with cleaning up!

Rustic Board Sharing Platters

Rustic Wooden Board Sharing Platters – A Unique Social Dining Experience

In recent years, the communal dining experience has become so much more popular at social gatherings, with people preferring to sample a range of different dishes and tastes, rather than having to stick to a rigid, prearranged starter, main and dessert arrangement. There are a number of reason for this, not least being that being able to choose what you eat on the day is a more attractive proposition than having to decide what you’re going to want to eat weeks in advance.

Cost Effective

One of the primary reasons for the growth in popularity of rustic family style sharing platters is their cost effective nature. If you’re organising a wedding for example, there’s a lot to pay for. From marquee hire to drinks packages and everything in between, there’s a lot to consider, so it’s good to know that when it comes to your wedding catering, that sharing platters represent not just a visually appealing alternative to traditional catering, but also an affordable one too. A Versatile Option Another reason for their popularity is their supreme versatility, as weddings are far from the only type of social event that they’re appropriate for. Whether you’re looking for BBQ catering, dinner party catering or more sombre occasions like funerals, platters are very much appropriate and are an option that will likely stay long in the memory for those attending events they’re used at.

More Sociable

Most gatherings are meant to be social affairs and there is no better way to get the social juices flowing than by providing food that encourages social interaction. Sharing platters packed with olives, fine cheeses and mouthwatering rustic fare are something that are almost crying out to be talked about with the person next to you. This type of luxury food is always best enjoyed in good company and grazing platters are the ideal way to realise this ideal.

At Fab Food For You, we are established East Sussex Caterers and we have a passion for creating unforgettable dining experiences for our clients. We can provide bespoke menus, hog roast catering, catering hire equipment and even vintage crockery hire. If you have an event you need catering for, then we’d love to hear from you and have a chat with you about how we can make it a event to remember, using concepts like shared grazing platters.

Eating out in Budapest and the surrounding shenanigans

Well here I am sat in front of my laptop with not a clue how to start a blog. I am unsure what a blog even is. After literally googling ‘how to write a blog’ I hope I now have somewhat of an idea what I should write about and where I should start. Here it goes…

In January I went to Budapest with two friends of mine, Tash and Zoe to celebrate Zoe’s Birthday. We started the day with a cheeky espresso Martini at Jamie’s Bar at Gatwick. Shortly after we boarded the plane, all seemed to be going swimmingly. That was until a string of announcements came from the captain reassuring us there was nothing to be concerned about, we were being diverted to Milan Malpensa due to a ‘technical fault’ with the aircraft. Being typically British teenagers, we assumed that was it. we were being abducted, never to be seen again. We were moved onto another plane along with our luggage which in our minds made it even worse, the thought of our plane being dumped and the last trace they had of us would be in Milan…

Of course, this was not the case at all. After boarding the new plane we soon arrived in Budapest. As we came out of the airport terminal we instantly saw the 100E bus we needed to board to get to our Hotel, The Exe Danube. However, this wasn’t as simple as it may sound, the machine we had to use buy our ticket had an English option which contributed to the ease of the task but due to our lack of patience we ended up buying the wrong ticket! Although, not realising this we tried to hop on to the bus. The driver soon stopped us and as we continued to get awfully muddled with the currency the driver quickly sorted the situation for us. The mistake didn’t cost us hardly at all as we found it unbelievable how cheap the public transport was, in fact everything was in the city.

Before long, we arrived in the centre of Budapest. Although, due to our delayed arrival and the time of year we arrived in the dark. We found our way to our hotel, set down a dead-end road under an arch, it seemed just perfect, away from the noise yet in midst of it all. The entrance foyer of the hotel was just as impressive as the modern exterior, with décor and furnishings resembling the 1920’s Art Deco period, it was a great bargain! After checking into our room and admiring the beautifully decorated and ultra clean en-suit we quickly got changed ready for a night out.

Making our way to reception we decided it would be sensible to ask where would be best to go for a pleasant yet affordable meal. The receptionist, Carlos was delighted to help us out, he rang a restaurant he was friendly with and booked us a table.

While taking in our surroundings we made our way. Following Carlos instructions, we found the restaurant ‘Ladó Café’. What we found when arriving was not at all what we were expecting, it was to exceed all expectations. From the moment opened the door and the sound of the live jazz band hit us to the moment we left it was just an incredible dining experience. We were shown to a table right at the top of the restaurant, just one table away from a stage. The ‘Hot Jazz Band’ played everything from classics to modern day hits. It was the first time myself and the girls agreed, had experience that kind of ambiance in a restaurant.

Finally, I’m getting to the point of this blog, the food! for starter I had, Goose Liver Pate with a chutney, for the main, traditional Hungarian Pork Medallions with Ratatouille and the largest amount of thin sliced fried potatoes I have ever had on a plate! We accompanied the meal with numerous cocktails and couldn’t even contemplate having a dessert although we did have to look at the menu. It was all delicious and the service was incredible.

Eventually we decided we must free up the table and continued the night in several bars.
