The coronavirus pandemic is taking its toll on all of us and the current situation is unprecedented.
When you engaged Fab Food For You to cater for your event, we took a non-refundable deposit to cover our upfront costs, including planning and admin. As you are aware, planning an event like a wedding takes considerable time and effort.
Given the current worldwide situation, we fully appreciate that many of your planned events are likely to be postponed, or in some cases cancelled, which presents a headache for all of us. Rest assured, we’re still looking forward to working with you, and your event will not be forgotten. Once the immediate situation has passed, please feel free to get in touch to work out the most appropriate rescheduled date for your event.
Thank you for your understanding in these difficult times.
Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read our blog and all future ones. We are very excited to be able to share our experiences with you. Some of you may already know us but for those who don’t – We are Tom and Zoe currently travelling around New Zealand and are thrilled that Jacquie has invited us to use Fab Food For You website as a platform to share our food and travel experiences with you!
We feel it is only right we take you right back to the
beginning – 8 days in Los Angeles!
Our flight was an experience in itself. Before boarding our
Virgin Atlantic flight we had the pleasure of meeting our pilot, Mark. Mark
gave us an incredibly memorable flight; he treated us to Champagne, a tour
around the flight deck and introduced us to the two his co-workers in the
Once landed in busy LAX, we grabbed an Uber to our Airbnb
apartment in the city. From here the fun began…
Let’s talk about some food! Although most of the time we cooked for ourselves, we had to treat ourselves a few times to see if the English perception of American food we had, would be found. We’ve given each location a star rating out of 5.
Mel’s Drive In
We had been recommended this restaurant. Associated with the film, American Graffiti we were sure we would be impressed. From the outside, it looked slightly uninviting but inside you were immersed into a 1950’s classic diner kitted out with everything you expect, from the booths with a juke box to the waitress’ in their appropriate uniform. Surrounded with black and white images of celebrity icons in the diner – Marilyn Monroe being one of them and groovy music, we couldn’t help but be transported back to this era. The menu itself was vast, every side dish and drink you could imagine. Our waitress impressed us with a super quick rendition of every potato fry on offer. Our food certainly lived up to expectation- I had a steak and cheese toasty and Zoe had a fried Chicken Burger, both accompanied with a mountain of curly fries.
Zoe is sure most of you would have heard of this one. However, I hadn’t and wish It remained that way… it was that bad. Although I did manage to finish it all! The restaurant chain is well known for their breakfasts, so we wanted to try it out! We both had a pile of pancakes and a fried breakfast alongside. The pancakes were fine themselves but certainly nothing special. The hash brown was the best part of it all. The coffee was unlimited, the waiters would serve more when our cup was finished, so this was a positive. The price was also excessive, far too expensive for what it was. So, we wouldn’t recommend this one.
In N Out Burger
Now, I had heard of this one. It’s a well know fast food chain simply serving burger and fries. It was as busy outside as it was on the inside. Walking in was a sea of people. It reminded me of a cattle market – all it needed was a member of staff with a prodding stick. When we came to order we were slightly bemused by the menu, but we managed somehow to get our burgers. Although there was nothing ‘fast’ about the service. The burgers were pretty average, but the fries were exceptionally fresh. Also very good value for money – we would almost say cheap!
Jody Maroni’s Sausage Kingdom
On one of our days we took a trip to Venice beach. We decided at lunchtime we needed a bite to eat. Walking along the promenade Maron’s stood out to us, being a family run business set it aside from the more recent additions, it seemed. We ordered our dogs… they were simply delicious. The most loaded hot dog I’ve ever eaten! The large fries we ordered were certainly enough for a family, of course we poked them down.
Grand Central Market
Downtown LA was our destination this particular day. Walking up to the market the hustle and bustle was inviting, unlike the off-putting vibe to In N Out. The market was a permanent emporium in downtown, hosting mostly food vendors, it brings together many cuisines and cultures. Every kind of person could be found there; whether meeting a friend for breakfast, brunch, lunch or on your way to work, it was a meeting place of many foodies. Zoe went straight for Eggslut, specialising in egg dishes (something I avoid). Having looked it up online she was keen to try it out. She chose a bacon, egg and cheese brioche bun with a freshly squeezed orange juice. Prepare to queue but worth the wait. I, on the other hand, wondered aimlessly around the market ending up with an overpriced chicken burger from ‘Belcampo’ at 11am. Not my finest choice considering the array in front of me!
Spending eight days in the city meant we were able to see
lots of the famous sights you imagine when thinking of Los Angeles.
Of course, one being ‘The Hollywood Walk of Fame’. For us, this was the ghastly part of LA. We imagined, a glamorous pristine clean walkway of shiny brass stars. Which is true about a small part but not at all of what we were presented with for most of the walk… instead a drab boulevard full of sex shops, homeless people and drug users. Maybe this is why celebrities are often seen here?!
Chinese TLC Theatre was a feature of the Hollywood Boulevard too, many celebrity footprints were set into the paving slabs including, the cast of Harry Potter and many more.
Taking a tour around the Hollywood Hills, partly on Mulholland Drive, we were excited to see the homes of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills and the gated community ‘The Summit’. We also toured the famous ‘Rodeo Drive’ where the iconic Julia Roberts scene in Pretty Woman was filmed. Sunset Boulevard and ‘the strip’ was also part of the tour where many famous comedians and performers were first spotted.
Venice Beach, Muscle Beach and Santa Monica Pier were also
incredible sights to see, as well as The Historic Venice Canals District, where
you could easily be mistaken in thinking you were in Italy.
The Walt Disney Music Hall was an outstanding piece of
architecture in Downtown LA, as well as the well known ‘Last Bookstore’, a huge
store with grand marble pillars and cascades of literary work.
We hired a car for a couple of days and drove the South
Pacific Highway to Malibu. Malibu was a welcome relaxation day. Its sandy beach
lined with cool beach front villas was a scenic haven. It was a slight shock to
meet a rather eccentric couple with an Alpaca named, Sage. Sage seemed to be
quite the local celeb. Not what we expected to see on Malibu beach. Meanwhile,
something else we weren’t at all expecting to see that day, were a pod of
Dolphins, bowing through the water.
Warner Bros. Studio tour was another a fantastic experience. We went on the sets of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘Friends’ and into the studio of ‘Luther’. Stepping on the sets of many films we were amazed at how the sets were built and easily changed into different eras for different films. It’s astonishing that so many of the sets are used for so many different films, yet you’d struggle to realise when seeing them on screen.
Our final day took us back up onto Mount Hollywood, to Griffith Observatory. From here we gained phenomenal panoramic views of the whole city and Pacific Ocean. A definite must do. A great view of the Hollywood Sign was also on show, although we found it is easily visible throughout the city, which surprised us.
Summarising our visiting to LA, we would certainly recommend
less than 8 days. A car would definitely be convenient as walking anywhere is a
mission in itself. Zoe says she would go back as she feels there is a lot more
to see. I, however, feel I have seen everything I wanted to and would not go
back to LA itself, but it has opened my mind to the rest of America which I was
never attracted to before.
With the tinsel and Christmas lights of 2019 rapidly becoming a distant memory, it’s time to start thinking about the future. And if you’re someone with a major event like a wedding coming up in 2020, you’ll want it to be unique, full of character and something that you’ll never, ever forget.
In order to make these memories, you’ll need to include some ‘memory-makers’ and at FabFoodForYou, we’ve got a variety of optional extras to make your event one that will live long in the minds of your guests. As one of the leading catering companies in East Sussex, we’ve got a knack for creating event features that people just love.
Let’s have a look at a couple of examples of what we mean by ‘memory-makers’.
Betty the Ice Cream Trike
It might seem like the Summer sunshine is a long way away, but before you know, it will be back and Betty the Ice Cream Trike is a fabulous way to enjoy the warm weather in style. Available for hire for fetes, weddings and private functions, Betty is our wonderfully quaint and retro ice cream trike. Betty is around 3 feet wide by 6 feet long and contains a variety of bespoke sweet treats – an event feature that those assembled will be talking about for years to come.
Florence – the 1929 Triumph Selby Tourer
Another fantastic way you can add some individuality to your wedding or other private event is by hiring Florence, our 1929 Triumph Selby Tourer. Almost completely in her original condition, aside from a replacement canopy, Florence offers bags of vintage character in her diminutive frame. Available for opera picnics, proms and weddings, Florence can also be equipped with a delicious food hamper and fine wines for your enjoyment, representing a magical addition to any gathering.
A Fully-stocked, Licensed Bar
Or what about a fully-licensed, fully-stocked bar for your event, with wines, beers, spirits and signature cocktails available at extremely competitive prices? It’s up to you what we serve too, so if you’d prefer a gin-themed bar, one that only serves cocktails or a more traditional alcohol selection, we’re more than happy to oblige. It’s our flexibility to meet the needs of our customers that keeps them coming back to us year after year.
Unique Features for All Occasions
So, if you’re looking to put on a memorable
event this year or you’re looking for something unique to add to your wedding arrangements,

If you’re planning your wedding reception or social function in the East Sussex area, then you’ll likely be considering the best way to organise the drinks aspect. At Fabfoodforyou, we can take all of the stress and guesswork out of the equation by offering high-quality, bespoke paying bar services, complete with drinks packages, glasses and staffing if required.
It can’t have escaped your notice how expensive it is to have a tipple these days, but with our drinks packages, that’s much less of an issue. The prices we offer are very competitive so that you and your guests can worry less about the cost and concentrate more on socialising and making your wedding reception or function go with a bang!
Bring Your Own Welcome Drinks
A great way to bring down the overall cost your function is to bring your own welcome drinks. That’s not something that most catering companies would allow you to do without charging you a hefty corkage fee, but we like to do things a little differently. We don’t mind you supplying your own table wine and we won’t charge you for the privilege of opening the bottle – in fact, we’ll even serve your drinks to you.
Once your reception or function dinner is over, we simply switch to a paying bar for the remainder of the evening. It really is as simple as that.
Bespoke Drinks Selections
When we provide you with the paying bar for your function, you get the option to choose exactly what drinks are made available to your guests. Whether you want to go with a standard mix of wines, beers and spirits or you’d prefer a gin-themed bar, we’re more than happy to accommodate. We’re even able to offer cocktail bars, with our ‘Mr & Mrs’ Cocktails a particular favourite for wedding guests.
We Take Care of Everything
When you employ the FabFoodForYou team, you get a complete service and if required, we can provide you with pretty much everything, with just a large enough venue required. We can provide staff, glasses and drinks packages, as well as procuring any drinks licences you might need to hold your event. It’s just part of the service as far as we’re concerned.

Just the name ‘Titanic’ conjures up images of luxury, wealth,
grandeur, tragedy, horror and early death. So much!
Fortunately a trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for a taste
of the Titanic Experience carries with it more positive emotions, not least are
the gustatory experiences to be found there.
The trip started and ended with the ridiculous but practical
way to travel – good old Easyjet. Bargain prices making these types of trips
accessible to all but don’t bother with the in-flight refreshments – 5 star
prices for bargain basement food/drink. I
mean, would you pay £2 for a packet of crisps?? I won’t even mention the
The Titanic Hotel is pretty wonderful; it is the refurbished
Harland and Wolff offices where their White Star Line ships were created on
paper. Outside, it is true to the purpose it was built for and looks just like
the wharf side offices of a shipping line. Inside is something else. Totally
themed to the Titanic, everything within the refurbishment tells the story of
the Titanic, from inception to the actual launch and through to its untimely
demise in the Atlantic Ocean, courtesy of a huge iceberg.
Drawing Room 2 is the main bar and restaurant (a la carte)
which used to literally be the room where the designers produced the plans for
some of the largest ships to be built during its heyday. The room is elegant
and has a glass roof to allow natural light that helped the designers produce
their intricate plans. Today the lovely, courteous staff produce wonderful
cocktails, tea, coffee and meals throughout the day which are not overpriced.
Beautiful, comfortable furnishings make it a great place to relax but the real
beauty of it is to be seen at dusk when a wing of the new and wonderfully
designed Titanic Museum is lit up and looks just like an iceberg about to crash
into the large glass windows of Drawing Room 2.
We visited the incredible Museum, its architecture clearly
designed to produce a large iceberg. Inside was also amazing. The contents of
the museum also showed in great detail the birth through to the demise of the
Titanic, with pictures, still and
moving, everything in detail. The most poignant parts being the cameos of the
people involved and the outcomes and effects on family. Very moving. There was
a spiral, downhill cable car ride which showed film of how the huge rivets were
made and put into the ship – such hard work that left a great many with very
impaired hearing as they aged.
Then we made a visit to the Nomadic, the last surviving ship
of the White Star Line, which worked as a tender out of Cherbourg transferring
passengers to the Titanic as it was too big to get into the dock there. This
was very interesting and had holograms that talked to you and gave a more
personal side of what it was like to work on the ship.
Then we went the whole hog and this is where it touches on the
sublime. We had a meal in the Wolff Grill. Oh my goodness, not just a brilliant
choice of courses but such an artistic presentation – take a peak at the
scallops starter …… no fancy name involved just a description.
Langoustine, Cauliflower, Parsnip, Almonds’, bet you can’t identify the parsnip
wanted to try the scallops but was worried he wouldn’t like them, so I ordered
the Hake, which he would eat and said we could swap. He loved the scallops and
I was jealous, although the Hake was really good too.
Seaweed, Jerusalem Artichoke, Leek, Pea’. Tom was putting these images up on
social media and whilst some comments clearly enjoyed the finer things in life,
some asked if they could send us a food parcel!
settled for the ‘Guinea Fowl, Spinach, Mushroom, Leek, Shallots, Jus’, which
was so tasty I wanted to pick the plate up and lick it clean!
We chose a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to accompany the meal; it was fruity and fresh and complimented the food perfectly.
We then had to choose a sweet – again, no
fancy name, just descriptions.
My grandson chose ‘Apple, Sage Cream, Toffee, Vinegar, Blackberries’. He said it was delicious and wouldn’t share a taste with me. My choice was, ‘Cherries, Dark Chocolate, Parsnip Custard, Cream, Sponge’. The finished article looked like a flying saucer from outer space and tasted divine.
Our short trip to Belfast turned out to be a
bit of a gourmet’s dream because for lunch one day we chose Bullitt, a Taylor
and Clay Restaurant, and it also came up to 5 star standard. Shame I cannot
seem to find one in our area – it would be repeat visits if there was.
Our trip home ended with Easyjet and the
travel was problem free. I did wonder, when the cabin crew were doing the safety
demonstration, how on earth someone with my girth (a bit large) could possibly
get the life jacket on with the space the slim young things needed, I would
probably knock my neighbours out if the need ever arose. Needless to say, we
did not partake of the culinary delights on offer, just snoozed for the one hour

Here at Fab Food For You with Christmas just around the corner we have been busy catering for dinner parties and festive gatherings. Although the weather has been reasonably ok the temperature we are sure will soon plummet but there is one thing we are always stocked up on here at HQ… Wine! We think there is nothing better than a cup of Warm Mulled Wine in front of the fire on a chilly evening.
At Fab Food For You we love nothing more than a good ol’ party! I’m sure some of you are aware… we love nothing more than having friends round to our cottage in our spare time. Mulled Wine is one of those drinks that bring everybody together in our summer house gatherings! It’s perfect, warms us to the core and is simply delicious!
Most of you will know what Mulled Wine is but for those of you that don’t, essentially it is amalgamation of usually Red Wine, spices and dried fruit. The spices usually consist of: Star Anise, Cloves, Nutmeg and Cinnamon. Dried fruit usually being Orange peel and Raisins. The wine is gently heated in a pan to absorb the flavours.
Over the years we have formulated (roughly) our Festive Favourite, which is as follows:
1 bottle of Red Wine
1/4 cup Sugar
1 Star Anise
2 Cardamom pods
1/2 sliced Lemon
1 dash of Horseradish Sauce
drizzle of dry Sherry to finish each serving.
simply add the Red Wine to the pan and add the spices and Sugar. once brought to the boil leave to simmer for 40 minutes. in the last moments of simmering add the slices of lemon. When serving ladle into mugs or glasses, whichever you prefer! Finally add a dash of Sherry and a garnish of Orange!
After all the nervous excitement of that special someone in your life saying “Yes!” has subsided, the reality of the task in hand can seem pretty overwhelming. There’s the car, the food, the bridesmaids dresses and…and…and…we think you get the picture – there’s a lot to get arranged.
There’s an awful lot of pressure to have the best wedding ever, which most usually comes from the bride, the groom or parents wanting the perfect day for their son or daughter. With this amount of arrangement work needed to be done for the big day in question, it’s understandable why so many choose to employ the services of a wedding planner.
The idea of keeping on top of all the necessary arrangements can seem scary, but wedding planners can be so costly and wouldn’t you rather be spending your money on other things, like an exotic honeymoon or a vintage car to take you to the church? Well, to back up our claim, we’re now going to take a look at a few reasons why you DON’T need a wedding planner.
Reason #1 – Friends & Family
It can be easy in this kind of scenario to think you need to do everything yourself, with an “It’s my wedding, so I should organise everything” frame of mind. However, if you have a bunch of friends and family who are eager to help you, you shouldn’t be afraid of delegating tasks to them. Many hands make light work and all that.
Simply assign each person a single task and let them get on with it. As long as you are clear with your instructions and use good communication, you can use your loved ones as extensions of your wedding planning team! One job per person is ideal.
Reason #2 – Long Timescale
Wedding planners have their place and that’s helping out couples who are busy, affluent professionals with plenty of cash to splash around or people who are really short on time. If your wedding is a year or so in the future, you have plenty of time to get everything organised….even if there’s a ton of stuff sort out.
Just make sure that you write everything down and get confirmation from everyone you book services with in one place so it’s easy to find.
Reason #3 – The Cost
There’s no getting away from the fact that wedding planners don’t come cheap. With average costs starting anywhere from £1,000-£5,000 and wedding planners often charging by the hour, having one can take a huge bite out of your wedding budget. This is why doing it yourself is such an advantage if it’s possible.
Look through the average wedding magazine and you’ll find tips and advice on doing it yourself, even if you’re a total novice. All it takes is delegation, organisation and a little family assistance.
Reason #4 – All Inclusive Venues
Another reason why wedding planners can be surplus to requirements are that there are plenty of wedding venues around the UK that offer all inclusive services. Even those who don’t, will invariably have contacts in the local community they can put you in touch with, such as cake makers and florists.
Just be sure to visit each one before you make your decision, as you don’t want to go all in on a location that you’ve never seen. Once you’re happy with a venue, you can take advantage of whatever inclusive services they offer knowing that much of the work is done.
Reason #5 – Someone Else’s Tastes
Employing a professional wedding planner can take a good deal of the stress away from your big day, but one consequence of doing so is that some or all of the elements might not be exactly what you would have chosen yourself. So, the question you need to ask yourself is if you’re wanting the “hands off” wedding experience, how much autonomy are you going to give to the planner?
If you want complete control over what happens at your wedding, a wedding planner might not be for you – on top of the reasons we’ve already mentioned.
You CAN Manage Without A Wedding Planner
At Fab Food For You, we urge you to consider working without a wedding planner, as your hard earned money can be spent so much better elsewhere. In fact, we would happily put you in contact with the wedding professionals we know in East Sussex free of charge, such as jewellers, seamstresses and photographers. We know what you’re going to say…yes, Wedding Planners Do charge for connecting you to their work friends!
We don’t charge you went we meet up to talk about your wedding catering either (yes, they for charge that too!), as frankly we wouldn’t do that to you. However, what we will do is offer you high quality, memory making catering services to make your day extra special, as well as helping you with anything we are able to – which includes putting you in touch with good professionals that we know that you’ll think are fab!
So, there you have it. You CAN do it on your own and you DON’T need a wedding planner when you get in touch with the right people. So, before you throw your money away on a wedding planner, speak to us first, which you can do by calling us on 07890183293 or by emailing us on email@example.com. Rest assured that we will only ever recommend things that are in your best interest, be it people we know or services we provide ourselves.
We thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We hope that it helps you spend money on your wedding where it’s really needed.
